Acquisition Associate

Elk Range Royalties is an active buyer of mineral and royalty interests in the US. We have partnered with NGP Energy, an investment firm with an over 30-year history of investing in the oil and gas business. This provides us with strong financial backing in the form of patient capital with a long-term horizon. The company is currently investing capital out of its second equity commitment from NGP under Elk Range Royalties II. Elk Range Royalties III is expected to be launched in early 2025.

Summary:

As an Acquisition Associate, your primary duties will be making daily outbound cold calls to individual mineral owners to find potential opportunities to purchase their interests. Building relationships is crucial—you will connect with owners whether they are interested in selling or not, establishing trust and rapport over time. You’ll need to communicate effectively, adapt to different conversations, and stay persistent in your outreach efforts. Managing your time wisely and focusing on high-value interactions are key to success. In this role, you will work closely with our internal teams to evaluate leads and close deals, gaining hands-on experience in sourcing, qualifying, and completing mineral and royalty transactions. Essential Duties:

  • Pursue acquisitions of mineral and royalty interests through outreach programs via cold calling efforts, targeted mailing, and prospecting while working alongside other business development team members.

  • Communicate status of outreach efforts to team and develop reliable follow-up practices with leads. 

  • Help identify, confirm, and estimate mineral and royalty ownership for outbound campaign efforts.

  • With guidance from a senior team member, prepare offers, negotiate with landowners, and close transactions on mineral and royalty properties.

  • Support all phases of the closing team in the evaluation and due diligence processes for acquisitions.

Skills:

  • Comfortable cold calling and generating leads.

  • Must be goal-oriented, approaching projects with a sense of urgency and drive.

  • Prior experience in sales, acquisitions, or calling programs (oil & gas related is a plus but not required).

  • Must be able to deal with a certain amount of ambiguity.

  • Must be detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task with attention to accuracy.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills, along with a customer service approach.

  • Ability adapt to new technologies, workflows and processes.

  • Knowledge and competence with computers and various software such as MS Office suite (particularly Excel and PowerPoint) – experience with Enverus, Oseberg and QGIS a plus but not required.

  • Bachelor’s degree a plus
